Abdoul Doumbia, a Djembefola from Ségou in Mali that the teaches the word ‘jembe’ comes from two words in the Bambara language. The word ‘Dièn’ means unity and the second word ‘Bin’ that signifies harmony.

Similar, Namory Keita mentioned the word ”djem” meant gather and the word be meant peace. So the word Djembe which is a west african hand drum, also means “gather peace.”
